Opposition Research

Know your opponent better than they know themselves.

Public-record digs, campaign finance analysis, voting record review, and digital footprint audits — compiled into a multi-page intelligence briefing tailored to your race, your district, and the specific vulnerabilities most relevant to your voters.

What We Offer

Comprehensive public-record research on your opponent.

Opposition research is not about creating attacks — it's about knowing the facts of your race so you're never surprised by your own record or your opponent's. Informed campaigns make better decisions at every stage.

💰

Campaign Finance Review

Your opponent's donor list, contribution sources, and expenditure patterns pulled from FEC and state campaign finance databases. Who is funding their campaign? Are there donors whose interests conflict with their stated positions? Are there large-dollar contributors from outside the district? Campaign finance tells a story that public statements don't.

📃

Voting Record + Public Record Digs

For incumbent opponents, voting record on key local issues — tax levies, budget decisions, zoning approvals, board votes. For challenger opponents, any prior public office, committee service, or documented policy positions. Court records, property records, business filings, and professional licensing all part of a complete public-record sweep.

🔍

Digital Footprint Audit

Your opponent's complete public social media history reviewed — posts, comments, shares, and public group memberships across Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and any other platform with a public presence. Inconsistencies between their stated positions and their documented statements online are documented with full citation. Screenshots captured for the record.

📄

Intelligence Briefing Report

All findings compiled into a structured multi-page briefing document — categorized by topic area, sourced with specific citations, and assessed for relevance to your district's key voter concerns. The briefing is delivered privately and is not stored in any shared or public system. How you use the information is entirely your campaign's decision.

How We Win Voters

Campaigns that know the terrain win more often than campaigns that don't.

Opposition research serves two purposes: offensive and defensive. On offense, it tells you which contrasts are most powerful — where your record on tax or spending or governance is demonstrably stronger than your opponent's. On defense, it gives you advance notice of what they may try to use against you, so your campaign isn't caught flat-footed in a debate or a news cycle.

In down-ballot races, opposition research is often entirely absent — especially on the Republican side, where campaigns are frequently run by volunteers without time or expertise for systematic research. That absence creates an information vacuum that skilled candidates can exploit. A campaign that has done its research and knows the facts of the race wins the contrast argument; a campaign that hasn't is defending against attacks it didn't see coming.

All BMS opposition research is built on public record sources. We don't engage in any research method that isn't available to any motivated citizen with an internet connection and time — we simply do it systematically, completely, and quickly, with an eye toward what's most relevant to your specific race.

Which tier includes opposition research?

Opposition research is included in Campaign Ready ($10,000) and every tier above it. The Machine retainer includes ongoing monitoring and updated briefings as new information becomes available throughout the campaign cycle — useful in longer races where your opponent's record continues to develop.

Standalone opposition research can be scoped separately for campaigns that need it outside of a full-tier engagement. Contact us to discuss. All findings are delivered in writing with full citations and handled with strict confidentiality. See full pricing for complete tier details.

🎯

Voter Targeting + Data

Opposition intelligence and voter data belong in the same strategy session. Knowing your opponent's weak precincts and your own persuasion targets together shapes where and how you compete.

💼

LinkedIn

Your opponent's professional history, board memberships, and donor network are all indexed on LinkedIn. Opposition research starts with open-source intelligence — and LinkedIn is one of the richest sources.

🛡️

Digital Security Audit

Opposition research is a two-way street. A Digital Security Audit applies the same methods to your own record so you know what they'll find before they publish it.
